I've been having trouble coming up with ideas for quizzes lately (hint, hint...), so this one is going to be a little different. I honestly don't know what this thing in the picture is. It's just a picture I have, I don't actually have the device. The picture was taken at an AT&T HF transmitting station that was being dismantled. Unfortunately I wasn't there, so I don't know anything else about it. Any ideas??

I still don't know for sure what it is, but several possibilities were submitted. In random order:

fusible resistor.

It could be a High Voltage fuse. It's hard to tell from the picture. Could be a parasitic suppressor for a 4cx100000.

I think it's a high voltage fuse...but I've never seen such a thing. It looks much like a barber pole sign, but it would be colored if it were that.

Fuse.

Travelling Wave Tube (TWT).

I think it's a big fuse or high power transient suppressor.

Some sort of parasitic choke.

It is obviously either a miniature barber's pole on its side or a precision resistor encased in glass.
