Not everyone wants to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on equipment to measure their transmitter power, so sometimes you need to improvise. I have seen the some of the following power indicating techniques suggested in ham literature....all except one. Which one?


Stick your tongue in the output connector to feel the voltage like you do with a 9V battery

Hold the point of a wooden pencil near the tank coil and see how big an arc it makes

Use light bulbs for a dummy load and observe their brightness

Coil up lossy coax in a bucket of water and see how warm the water gets
